Last week I got an art event participation invite from one of my best former officemates, Momon. It was Wednesday morning at 10 when I received messages from her saying that it’s time to get up from bed XD That day was the deadline of entry submission to BGC Art Mart. It was the first time I’ve heard about the event and since I’ve just gotten up, it took a while before it sinked in my brain haha. Momon seemed so excited to participate in it so I didn’t hesitate to give it a try. We submitted our application that same day. Then the following day I received this email:

It was like a “go” signal to prepare everything in 2 days.

Aside from this event, I also need to do another commission from Paper Chic Studio. It is the Gift Certificate for their Yummy Eats 2013 event, which will be held same day as BGC Art Mart. So yeah I was busy that week. I’ll list the breakdown of works I did just to simplify everything up:

MONDAY

Watercolor Practice

THURSDAY

Received event participation confirmation from BGC Art Mart

Received revision order from Paper Chic Studio
Revised and studied how to convert the file to PDF editable file (pain in the a&&, I failed haha)
FA-ed the GC
Watercolor Painting
Went to/emailed/paid Art Prints, Post Cards, Tote Bag and Button Pins suppliers
Announced about the event/did announcement poster

FRIDAY

Went to Bonifacio Global City to pass application papers
Claimed printed items on different printers’ locations
Went to National Bookstore to buy bubblewraps, kraft papers, etc.
Framed watercolor paintings
Prepared and estimated art prices
Slept 4am

SATURDAY & SUNDAY

Event days
Mama’s Birthday (Sat.) Need to celebrate with them when I get home
Got up 9am
Travelled by commute, hand carrying everything 1pm
Got home 12:30 am

This list might seemed so boring and tiring, but it was actually fun and tiring haha.

About the sold items, some of those who bought my artworks even asked me to sign the materials and take photos with them, it was awkward for me since I’m still not used to this stuff (but thank you for making me feel a bit like a star during those 2 days guys!).

Some of our best former officemates also supported us in the event. Manis stayed to “entertain” XD us in our booth, Pei allowed our artworks to stay overnight at their house (which is near the event location), and Chingki met with us during closing time on Sunday. We would like to thank you sweetest beaches again! We love you so much!

I am also very thankful about my family’s undying support in the things that I love doing, especially my mama. She understood and even let me participate in the event even though it was her Birthday. Thank you God for giving them to me.

As a summary, I can say that being a part of this event was fun. It was another chance to bond with friends, an opportunity to expose our underground artworks, meet our market and other artists, and lastly to gain more confidence.

Hi Momon, let’s do this again!

Gift Certificate I did for Paper Chic Studio for the held Yummy Eats 2013.

I did this Wednesday, and they had to test print it on Thursday before final printing Friday morning (the event is Saturday). I’m so learning to work, and think of a concept faster hihi. Oh and I also did tons of other things at the same time, (including painting, framing, travelling, organizing, zombie sleeping(?)) for my and Momon’s Art Mart event, which was held same day as the Yummy Eats—so I am also learning to multitask with my illustrated girls, both digital and trad! Woohoo! Level up +10.

Thank God I survived! #happythankyoumoreplease yup, I enjoyed and missed trading sleep for art’s sake. The only thing I feel a bit bad about was not being able to visit Paper Chic Studio’s booth, although it’s just blocks away, to meet my fun clients and to see this Gift Certificate’s hard copy :( I wish I was Wonder Woman.

By the way, May 18th or “our events’ date” was also my beautiful mama’s 45th Birthday! So yeah, I’m the busiest! Haha

Hey guys! If you have a spare time this coming weekend :)

Me and my friend Momon, will be selling paintings (including Madonna on above poster) and prints this coming Saturday May 18, and Sunday May 19, 3pm at the BGC Art Mart. It will be held at Bonifacio High Street, Bonifacio Global City.

We do not have a table number yet, but we might tweet about it on the exact days.

To all the women who gave us the deepest, perfectly placed, most meaningful scar called navel, “Happy Mother’s Day!”

On this special day I have prepared an Illustration and a simple narrative—which I haven’t done in years.

The illustration above is Sydney. She have just had a Mama tattoo under her navel—from where she used to live ;) The tat on her left thigh says “Maria Victoria Sarmiento” who is her creator’s very beautiful, loving mother. On her right thigh is a portrait (only her head wearing a bow is seen here) of my very first original illustration A.K.A Sydney, and all of my other illustration’s mother.

The narrative, although roughly made, is specially dedicated to my mama. It can also be sung in a “Kate Nash” manner, but please don’t ask me exactly how, I’ll just leave it to the hands of musicians haha.

So here it goes:

She is a very beautiful woman
Yet covered by lousy shirt, pants
And slightly grey, sweaty hair
She is cooking steak for lunch
Her hands gracefully stir things up
With her fingernails at their best

Suddenly her nineteen-year-old boy asks
“Ma, have you bought my index paper?”
She said “oh I forgot!”
She hurriedly left the dirty kitchen
And gets coins to buy at the nearby store,
But they don’t have it either

So she went back home and tell the little boy,
“I’ll get it for you from the market later”
The boy a little upset said, “ok”
When she finished cooking, she sets the table
And with a modest voice yet at its loudest
She calls her three children and husband
“Lunch is ready!” then they ate, and burped

Everyone would say “my mom’s the best”
And have different stories to flaunt
So I’m taking a few steps back as an observer
To look at her before I say
All the mess in the world can’t make her break
And the jewelries she wear just can’t shine brighter
God, she’s soul-deep beautiful

After feeding her family, she then prepares food
For her house’s other companions
Four dogs, four little pups
Four resident cats and two visiting
She feeds them, and they burped

It’s two in the afternoon, under the blazing sun
She wanted to take a quick nap but as she went inside
Her husband is on the sofa
And little boy is on her bed
She isn’t so fond of going upstairs so
She said, “I’ll just skip then”

She picks up the clothes thrown
Over the chair and folds them
She did it for hours
Suddenly her girl says
“Ma, I want mangoes”
And so she prepared them for her

Everyone would say “my mom’s the best”
And have different stories to flaunt
So I’m taking a few steps back as an observer
To look at her before I say
All the mess in the world can’t make her break
And the jewelries she wear just can’t shine brighter
God, she’s soul-deep beautiful

It was five in the afternoon
It’s time to head back to the market
She has a lot in mind, including the index paper
And when she gets there
She does her accounting job then
She buys a lot of stuff after, and Ice cream too

It’s been an hour and a half; it’s time to go home
When she arrives she offers everyone the ice cream
Everyone’s so excited
They have consumed everything up
None was left for her

Quite weary she prepares dinner
But still does her best to impress
The waiting taste buds of her husband
“Dinner’s ready!”
“It’s not very good”, he says

When everyone’s finished she does the dishes
The feed the dogs and cats again
She would sleep late at night
Because she’s doing paper works
And have to wake up seven in the morning
To do everything over again

Everyone would say “my mom’s the best”
And have different stories to flaunt
So I’m taking a few steps back as an observer
To look at her before I say
All the mess in the world can’t make her break
And the jewelries she wear just can’t shine brighter
God, she’s soul-deep beautiful

She never complains
She always understands
She seldom yells
And when she’s tired
She prays and gives thanks

She work, work, work, work, work, work, work
And she works

At school when her children were asked at the midterm paper
“What’s your mother’s occupation?”
They wrote “Plain Housewife”

Paper Chic Studio commissioned me to do icons for their Facebook Page! And again, they trusted me to take care of everything. It’s a great feeling to gain trust from clients, so I really am very thankful :D

MY BIRTHDAY + YOUR QUESTIONS

Firstly, I would like to thank everyone who have joined my blog’s very first giveaway! Also, congratulations to the winner! I hope the package would survive the cruises to your doorstep hihi.

As for my Birthday, well I have celebrated it for 3 days just like I did 2 years ago. It’s because I want to celebrate it with different groups of people who are important in my life—so I could spend time with each of them equally, not to mention the anticipation of the level of wholesomeness for each group XD

First one was during my exact Birthday. I celebrated it with my family at home. My mama prepared Italian dishes (my favorites), then ate Violet and Christian got me 2 RR chocolate cakes with blue candles (also my favorites). Then, the night that date mama treated me to a nearby spa. I’m telling you, spa-rtying with your mom is the best! Oh I also grew a wisdom tooth, hello!

Second celebration was a couple of days after, with my childhood girl friends, Jaz (my best friend) Fati, and Joh. We were actually expecting 2 more girls but circumstances are circumstances XD I co-celebrated the day with Fati, whose birthday happens to be just 2 days before my birthday.

Yup, I ate those meat too… once a year wouldn’t hurt! Then we bought some doughnuts to go,

The third and last celebration was the night after the second one. I spent the night with my best former officemates Pei, Momon, and Chingki. I invited Baynts (sorry we’ve came up with those crazy nicknames at the office) but he didn’t show up as usual haha, but he’s still one of my best officemates.

Just like the second one, I co-celebrated this day with Chingki (a bit haha)

Also, it was the same night my INK batchmate Tokwa’s Hypnagogia exhibit so we also attended the awesome event.

Then we got a couple of mochis just before we went home.

It’s been a fun night!

Each day was special and I really am very thankful for them. I wish I could spend more birthdays like this!

As for the material presents, my ate Violet gave me the bag and shades she spotted me drooling over at Forever21. She’s the thoughtful-est!

And now that all the partying are over, I can now continue on with my painting—which is due at this month’s end. Can also start working on a couple of commissions. Wish me good spirits guys!

Now that you’ve mention it, I did made a lot of posts since last year huh? I got surprised myself hihi. It’s a little tougher for me to post regularly this year though, since I got loads of offline work + hammering deadlines (good thing I know how to consider each one as a “blessing”). But I’ll try to keep my phase :D

I post pictures of myself occasionally under “Personal > Photos”. Some are actually hidden(?) since you have to click “read more” to reveal them. I don’t know, I just don’t like vain glory-ing haha. But since I’ve read your message a couple of days ago, I’ve realized how important it is to introduce myself, as THE artist. Hi everyone! My Birthday is coming up in just a couple more days to go! Lead and Watercolor on 100GSM Laid Paper.

Say hello to my new girls! After experimenting and practicing the medium for almost a month, I’ve finally come up with “My Original Traditional Illustrations” yay!

I’m still researching for the best kind of paper for this medium.

March is my birthday’s month so I’ve decided to make more mature illustrations. These pieces’ theme is: Growing Up.

These were the “lab rats” during my experiment and practice periods. They are arranged according to date, oldest-newest (these would look familiar if you have been following me on Instagram).

Theme: Sweet Tooth

Cotton Candy - February 18, 2013. First one I did for this theme. I’ve experimented on blending the colors, which I find… kind of interesting.

Ice Cream - February 20, 2013. This one got really far from my style haha. But my brother, Pil loved it (he’s a weird person).

Lollipop - February 21, 2013. I’ve tried textures and smooth ends (hair). Looks different from my original style since I do flat coloring.

Candy Cane - February 27, 2013. Since I thought that I should stick to flat coloring, I’ve tried to use Sharpie in this one—with lead on top because you know, I also need to retain my swirls and details.

Candies and Cream - March 3, 2013. Oh well, she looked like an Indian goddess what the. Hahaha. Way too far from my style.

After I’ve done the worst, I’ve come up with the right one the night after :) So how do I know if “it is the one”? Hmm, it’s when I don’t extend too much effort, yet I still love the result—and I wanted to do more of it!

About this illustration

Her name is Wendy, she has the ability to produce clouds. How helpful is that XD
